VICTORIAN HOUSE: Activities

We Believe Everyone SHOuld ENJOY Life to Its Fullest

Victorian House may have only 13 residents, but we have an active activities department. We develop Victorian House's recreational activities with our residents and our Resident Council. We emphasize helping residents to continue enjoying their individual talents, lifestyles, friendships and community involvement

We have activities scheduled throughout the day, seven days a week. Every day, we have an exercise program. We also have a hospitality hour for socializing and opening mail or a coffee hour. We work with crafts, play trivia and board games, and host a variety of events. In February, we have a Valentine's Day event and a Beach Party. In March, we celebrate St. Patrick's Day and in the spring Easter. In May, we host a special Mother's Day event. In June, we have our annual Father's Day Car Show. And the holidays always bring a variety of special events.

Adopt-a-Grandparent

Cedar Hill has a very active program with local schools that our Victorian House residents participate in with the Health Care Center. For twelve years, residents at the Health Care Center and Victorian House and third-grade students from State Street School have participated in an adopt-a-grandchild/grandparent program led by Theresa Melanson, a third-grade teacher at the school. Students visit once a month from October through June, and both residents and children enjoy and benefit from the bonds they establish. We also have this program with the Ascutney School. Past activities include: a field trip to the Fire House in Windsor, inviting the adopted grandparents for lunch at the State Street School, magic shows, making gifts for one another, and an end-of-the-school-year barbecue.

Having fun inside and out

At least a few times a month, we bring performers to Victorian House and the Health Care Center. The Bob Brown Band plays golden oldies. The Harold Luce Band plays old-time music on fiddle and piano. Brent Boswell is a fabulous accordion player and Judy Skinner is a new favorite who performs on the guitar.

Our vans take our residents on regular trips. We go to restaurants throughout the area, out for ice cream or just enjoy cruising around during our gorgeous foliage season.

Keeping the faith

We believe strongly in helping our residents continue their religious activities if they choose. We have ministers and volunteers who come in regularly from a variety of local churches to hold services and other programs.

We hope you will come visit Victorian House and enjoy our residents and activities.
