health care center: ACTIVITIES
We Believe Everyone SHOuld ENJOY Life to Its Fullest
The Health Care Center's Activity Department develops recreational and therapeutic activities along with residents and our Resident Council. We emphasize helping residents enjoy their individual talents and lifestyles and becoming involved in our Cedar Hill community.
We schedule activities throughout the day. Every day we have exercise programs at the Health Care Center. We also always host a hospitality hour for socializing and opening mail. We have crafts, trivia games, and other events and have a budding arts program. We have a number of common rooms we use for our in-house activities.
Adopt-A-Grandparent Program
Cedar Hill has a very active program with local schools. For twelve years, residents at the Health Care Center and third-grade students from State Street School have participated in an adopt-a-grandchild/grandparent program led by Theresa Melanson, a third-grade teacher at the school. Students visit once a month from October through June, and both residents and children thoroughly enjoy and benefit from the bonds they establish. Past activities include: a field trip to the Fire House in Windsor, inviting the adopted grandparents for lunch at State Street School, magic shows, making gifts for one another, and an end-of-the-school-year barbecue. Entertainment and Outings
A few times each month we host musical performances. The Bob Brown Band plays golden oldies. The Harold Luce Band plays old-time music on fiddle and piano. Other regular performers play guitar, the accordion and the pan flute.
Our outings include trips to restaurants, the Quechee Balloon Fest and just driving around during the height of foliage season.
We also host a variety of resident, family and public celebrations at Cedar Hill. Every year, we host a Car Show on Father's Day that we open up to the public. Mother's Day usually includes a special tea. We have holiday parties for families and friends (including a visit from Santa for the children), and brighten winter with a Beach Party.
We believe strongly in involving families in our programs. We encourage friends and family to visit during our weekly BBQs in the summer, and in February 2006 we held an art show with art from residents, families and staff.
Keeping the faith
We believe strongly in helping our residents continue their religious traditions. We have ministers and volunteers who come to Cedar Hill regularly from our local churches to hold services and other programs.
We hope you will come visit the Health Care Center and enjoy our activities.
