Dear Cedar Hill Family Members, Friends, Volunteers, Residents and Staff:
We can't wait to see many of you at our 21st Annual Family & Staff Picnic on Saturday, August 29th. We will be holding it from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. This year we will have entertainment from old-time singer Shep Spinney. We'll have games for children - as well as adults who enjoy face painting - and we welcome families and staff to the Annual Picnic. We do need you to RSVP to Barbara Flinn or Sue Spadaro.
This year our staff has been gathering a variety of items to raffle to benefit our Resident Fund. Read more about these items - including a quilt by Victorian House Manager Karen Jones - in "Save the Date."
We hope you have all had a chance to meet and welcome our new Adult Registered Nurse Practitioner Bridget Fillo. We are so happy to have her on board and part of our health-care team.
We benefit from our many residents and their skills and talents. Westminister resident Ralph Harlow was here for rehabilitation services. By the time he was ready to return home, he has assumed filling our bird feeders and helping the community in other ways. A decorated World War II Navy veteran he noticed on his rounds of the bird feeders that our U.S. flag was in poor shape. Just before July 4th, we raised a new flag, donated by another World War II veteran.
We look forward to seeing many of you on August 29th. As always, thank you for being part of the Cedar Hill Community.
Warmest regards,
Mary Louise Sayles and Patricia Horn

Village Notes:
In August, we will be heading to the beautiful Juniper Hill Inn for a concert by Sweet Music. We were very lucky to receive tickets purchased by local merchants for us.
Our reading group continues to enjoy Growing up Over A Drugstore by our own resident Verla Robbins as well as Forward from Heaven by Reeve Lindbergh.
We are regularly enjoying the Windsor Library and their selection of listening tapes as well as our restaurant and other outings.
Our monthly foodies' tastings have been cheese and cookies, including Barnum's animal cookies and milk-chocolate covered pretzels.
On the days possible this summer, we are enjoying dining out on the Village Terrace and our visits from Annie the Horse.

Active @ Cedar Hill
We look forward to an active August and September. In mid-August, we will tour the Cornish Colony Museum in Windsor. We will also visit Sugarbush Farm in Woodstock, known as a Cheese Lover's Paradise. We look forward to checking that out.
Then we hope to see many of you at the Family & Staff Picnic on August 29th. Shep Spinney, who will be playing at the picnic, joined us in June and was a huge hit with our residents and staff. He has entertained with stars such as Roy Clark and Ronnie Milsap and performed at the Grand Ole Opry.
We started August with a grand time at the Shrine Parade in Windsor before the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl Game. Thank you, Mary Kent, for arranging our top-notch seating arrangements for the parade and for your home-made yummy cookies.
This month we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii's statehood. We are planning a variety of Hawaiian activities. Let's hope that includes some sunny Hawaiian weather. We are hoping for sunshine to enjoy our wading pools and water guns on the front terrace.

Eating Well
We are beginning a new menu of foods at the Health Care Center and Victorian House in August. This new menu will feature fresher, locally grown foods, traditional favorites and some new more upscale selections.
We will be using more local farms to purchase fresh produce whenever possible and will expand our selections to include more varieties of seafood, poultry, beef and pork.
We are starting a "room service" menu with additional selections for short-term rehabilitation residents and residents who are looking to move home. The items on this menu will be similar to those they might find in a local cafe or restaurant. These include omelets, cheeseburgers and a variety of fresh salads.
Long-term residents always have the option of ordering an alternative to the main menu items.
The emphasis in both menus is freshly prepared foods using fresh ingredients whenever possible.
